Surya Namaskaara

Okay. Now, one of the reasons why I am skeptical about AOL is the way Sri Sri has marketed 'Sudarshan Kriya' as his baby. It is not !

Sudarshan Kriya has been around for centuries. Sri Sri can be credited with making it world famous. But, there are many who do the 'Kriya' with ignorance. A school in Canada has a yoga session everyday. There are taught the Kriya for about 15 minutes, and directly after that allowed to have lunch. I find this frightening. One of the first things we are taught in yoga is to go through a 'Shava aasana' or 'The death pose' after even stretching exercises. So, eating after a kriya , and that too kriya for kids ? A bit risky, don't you think ? This is why I do not believe in meditation made easy for the West !

I do surya namaskaara daily. My mom taught me when I was very young. I find that in addition to making me more relaxed , and stronger at heart, it has also improved my flexibility, my hair and my figure. It has also made me a lot more disciplined as I need to do the exercise before a bath, and need to have a sufficient gap before and after the exercise.

wowow you written after a long long long time :)

welcome back
I was told a funny theory behind why people did Surya namaskar.. especially with WATer..

I am not sure if its true, the sun in morning is at perfect distance and the rays pass through water to hit your body .. and those rays are good ..

Well thats the scientific theory someone told me how good or bad that is i have no clue ...

Welcome back. You were gone a long time. I learned Surya Namaskaar in my school and it was easy to do. What I like about it is that it's about the oldest Hindu deity. A centuries old tradition!

Deepa,

Got your link from your comment. Read current posts and some older ones. I agree with you on different yardstick used for men and women. How is your grandmother now? Why do you think we were ruled by outsiders for so long? And we have still not learnt lesson. Commercialisation of our culture is very harmful.

Take care

PS : Looking for your views in my space.

As a kid surya namaskar was one of my favourite activities to be done on the ground (though we kids used to do it in the evening watching the sunset). I never managed to learn the breathing technique which goes along with it though.

Glad that you follow a routine for exercise.

I dont know much about AOL or how realiised Sri is. But a lot of masters have tweaked yoga to fit into the modern dilemma of time vs health. I don't believe its wrong as long as there is full control behind it.

How young are the kids btw? Yoga must be very carefully imparted to kids isn't it? They are much more open and might not want to come back from the experience like us grown up idiots.
