ENDARO MAHANU .....

" ENDARO MAHANU BAVULU " is probably my favourite Carnatic classical song.

Those who know about classical music would know that this song is in the "Sreeraga".
My family believes in the children learning Carnatic music right from their childhood. And, it was no different in my case either. Of all the ragas I learnt , Sreeraga was my favourite. Not just in Carnatic music, but I liked those film songs that followed this raga more than the others. My other favourite raga was Kaanada.

" ENDARO MAHANU BAVULU " was sung by Sri Tyagaraja. This song was composed by him after watching the great Shadkala Govinda Mara perform. The language it is composed in is Telugu.

The song is a dedication to all the great maestros and performers.
The line : "ENDARO MAHANU BAVULU " means "Salutations to all the great men in this world"

Oh Deepa, I wish I could say something intelligent in response to your classical music post, but I won't so I'll just say "hi" instead. LOL.

their is a golden touch in that song.
some music can go across boundaries of language.
but when sung my thyagaraj.
when sung by the girl with big curly hair, who keeps elephants as friends, well it becomes different.

Yup, that is one good song. In case you're looking for more good songs of the Carnatic genre, you can visit http://www.hummaa.com/index.php

It has a special section dedicated entirely to Carnatic music alone.

Hi. I think Shri Tyagaraja composed "Endharo mahanubhavulu" much earlier.

Legend has it that he asked his disciples to sing it in praise of Govinda Marar when the latter came to Tyagaraja's house for the first time, in praise of Marar's musical genius.

The song was originally sung at the house of Sonthi Venkataramanayya.
