Yesterday once more

Remember the song " Yesterday Once More " by The Carpenters ?

The lyrics :

When I was young
I’d listened to the radio
Waitin’ for my favorite songs
Waiting they played I’d sing along
It made me smile

Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they’d gone
But they’re back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well

(*) every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they’re starting to sing’s
So fine
When they get to the part
Where he’s breakin’ her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It’s yesterday once more

Lookin’ back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I’d memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away

Repeat (*)

All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry
Just like before
It’s yesterday once more
Repeat (*)

Every Sunday , I'd wait for my dad to play this cassette ... while we were growing up, my sis and I didnt have free access to the music system ... and , I always wondered about this song... What was she thinking of when she sang this ?
We know Karen Carpenter died young ... of Anorexia .. A pity ... her voice is umatched !

I love singing the " every sha-la-la-la " bit ....

I dont generally like having memories of college / school ... but today a deep sadness came over me .. I missed my college friends ...

Work environment has so hardened us all .... Those close friends , with whom we used to spend so much time now seem so colod and distant.

Talked to a friend I had lost contact with for the past 7 years ... he's in the Navy .. it was so nice to get back in touch

This morning , I was listening to this song as well as ABBA's " Gimme Gimme Gimme .... "

This song , and Top Of the Worls were two of my favourite Carpenter songs ... Funny how inspite of all the new bands / songs , these old melodies still linger !

Ah u got me nostalgic now!
True some songs can bring old memories painfully alive...
The songs i can recall listening as a kid were Hotel California and sum German electronic band called "Kraftwerk".

You are in TCS ?
No re ... i couldnt get the post ...
I am in orkut .. but it is blocked here .. so , no use whatsoever !

2 rebel_on_loose :
nostalgia .. how i hate it !
remembering the songs is fine ... but when memories come alive , it is unbearable

there u go again, back to mediocrity!!
what a dull, boring post - cutting
and pasting the full lyrics of a song
and weaving a few comments around it.
no creativity, nothing!!
is this what blogging is all about?
sad day for the blog world! :((

new songs r temporary hits... some old numbers r everlasting hits

vaibhav said...

Hey, i hvnt heard many songs by them but love the song "Everywhere"

vaibhav said...

But why did u cut paste the lyrics.. u cud have written more about the song... Ms. Wrigley!

vaibhav said...

@Sudeep: Dude, today's new songs are tomorrow's old songs. So todays 'temporary' hits are also everlasting hits... right na?

Everything old is not gold... and everything new is not bad!

Sujit said...

lyrics is too good!!... loosing frinds is always a tough things.. Good that you met atleast one of your lost friends!!.. My entire college freinds are out.. noone in contact!, only 2 fellows thats all. The best part, I had an enemy in college and she one of the 2 fellows!! still how should she be in contact while being an enemy in college!!!

ashok said...

thats one of my fav songs wen i was a kid too...hmmm very nostalgic

College times are the best part of life - and the sad part is you realize after you come out of it.

Then you realize that those were fun times :)

Old memories always linger. Even if they are very good memories of an extremely bad movie my friend has, only because he was there with a very special friend. Or memories I have of the past 10 pm coffee with my family, playing card games or the memories I have of the Round Table meet of us friends, where the people on 3rd floor used to know we are there by our laughing.

Ok, I guess that's enough, or there will be a post in your comments.

That's the way it goes I guess. Everyone I think loses touch with people from high school, as they go to college, and even more from college as they begin work.

I think it's inevitable. It's just something that happens.

awww~ i love this song tooo!!!
reminds me of good old days with dad toooo ^^
my sister loved the Beatle's 'Yesterday' and it was a bit confusing for the kids to understand the difference tho...
this song was much better becoz of the karen's beautiful voice.
i like 'A Song for You.' and 'Rainy Days and Mondays..' too.
thank u million for the lyrics!!

2 shriedhar :
nopes ... i am not in tcs

2 sudeep :
Right !

2 Vaibhav :
but ... the songs of today dont make an impact in the long run.
take hindi movies ... can anything match the song : " inteha ho gayi ... " tho daily we hear better songs ? the songs of today lack smthg .. dont know what ... of course some songs of toiday are also gonna stay forever .. i think the prob lies with the lyrics.
abtthe pasting of lyrics , suddenly wanted to see it on my blog ... wrong reason , is it ?

2 Sujit :
if she was ur enemy in coll , makes sense that u r still in touch ... coz itz always ur enemies u rem the most ... hee heee heee

2 ashok :
very much so !!!

2 tcr_79 :
bingo !!! u r turning clever day by day ;)))
from copycat to wise ... waaaaah !!!

2 fleiger :
why dont u put all this up on ur blog ?

2 A/B :
and these things shouldn't happen ... coz later on , u find urself lost

2 Niki :
beautiful voice ...i agree !!!
heee heee ... poor kids !!!
sing along niki ....

Sudeep said...

And whats this going on abt TCS ???

RP said...

Truthfully. I have not heard these songs. Actually, I am a music-dumbo. So dont rememeber songs that I listen.
But I think I have heard this "Gimme gimme gimme" one though I cannot be sure.

Was my fav song too. Brings back ol' times, and a tap to my toe.

Sujit said...

very funny :)).. enemies wont be forgotten, but wont turn to freinds to be in contact right!!.. there was nice quality about her atealst! that she used to say, freindship has everything in it.. to dote, to get hurt, to be anger!!.. just beacuse you are angry or got hurt you should not stop being freinds!!!..

Old memories and old songs are always good to hear

Alexis Leon said...

She had a very beautiful voice. And a nice song it is. BTW are you in TCS? I was in TCS. But that was long time back.

What you said about friends is true. This is second time, I am reading about people missing friends and the same warmth and love not their in the friendship. May be it is part of growing up. Or may be it is lack of time. Or may be it lack of will to sustain a friendship or may be they were not friends... But rather than having a host of so called friends, it is better to have a few good friends.

Alexis Leon said...

Ignore my TCS question. I see you already have answered that. Sorry, didn't read the comments before posting.

Jackal said...
