Recycling

A few decades ago, milk was sold in bottles. As a kid, my father used to buy the milk, clean the bottles and return them. This was true for most consumables.

Then came the plastic age .. everything from rice to milk started getting sold in plastic wrapping. The amount of plastic waste around us is disgusting. Once the consumable is used, the plastic is just discarded, which is really bad. At least with paper cartons, the cartons can be recycled. And plastic, unlike paper, is harmful to plants :(.

So, at the cost of a bit of my time and effort, I've reverted to buying milk in bottles. After consuming the milk, I return the bottles to the same store. Therefore, no waste, nothing to recycle, and I feel I'm doing my part for the environment !

I read a bit more on milk bottles and looks like I am not the only one ..

If more people, especially in India, could take initiatives to reduce plastic consumption, the country would be so much cleaner and pollution free (like it used to be during my parents' childhood days).

I shudder at the plastic wastage all around too. But at times there are no other go. ONly thing is we recycle, always. We buy milk here in plastic cartons for the most part. Only recently we've found the glass milk bottles that are being sold in a nearby store and we are trying to accommodate that in our routines instead. We'll see how that goes with time.

Also, I found that the milk in glass bottles smell and taste so much better than the ones in cartons ...

It expires much faster tho .. maybe coz it's a lot more pure (without the preservatives)

I have only seen milk sold in plastic bottles here. Must explore and see if we can get glass bottles.

Things were much more eco-friendly earlier. I haven't seen much of glass-based milk supply. Tetra-packs are the most commonly available ones.

Deepa,

Read 2 posts. I hope and pray that Raja is safe at some place away where he might have been left by that van. I agree with you about plastic waste. Hope we all realize it and start selling all packaged items in recyclable material.

Take care

PS : Did you write under another url earlier?

Deepa,

There used to be another Deepa on blogspot but with a different url. I have been very irregular for the past one year and have just started writing and visiting. On checking her space I found that she has not posted anything for sometime. So I wondered if you are same with new url. Thanks for clarification. If you feel comfortable, do let me know your e-mail id. My id is in my profile. Thanks and take care

Thank you .. and yes, spot on !

Avada Kedavra :
Yup .. hadn't seen it much here too .. but now, in some stores, they stock them .. and all of them are organic ... so they taste like the milk we know !

Sujit :
I think some conscious people have started the glass bottle + organic milk marketing .. Slightly more expensive though.

Jack :
Ah ! I see ... nope .. I have this blog since 2005 .. and I used to visit you frequently .. you can see your comments on past posts of mine too !

Deepa,

Thanks for clarification. Yes, I checked and realised my mistake. I used to visit you both regularly but for the past little over a year I had not been regular due to my not keeping well. You would know that if you have read my initial posts after break last year. It feels so good to be back in touch with my young friends here again. Do keep visiting and also please do give a thought to my request. May God bless you.

Take care

These days, companies look into their profit than look at nature. This is the reason why we see more and more products getting marketed in plastic cartons.

Massive consumer behavior can bring change into the way companies place their product on the shelf.

With what we can..we can and we should for the nature
