A Real Story

A long time ago .. errrrr .. a week ago, there was a private bus travelling from the south of Kerala to the most developed city of Karnataka. The bus service was owned by a family from Tamil Nadu, who emblazoned "K.P.N" on all their vehicles.
The bus had almost reached its destination , when it ran over a lady on the outskirts of the city. The location being "Madivala". And the lady died on the spot.
Generally, fast moving rash vehicles are managed by cowards. It is mandatory that 2 drivers and a helper be present on all long distance journeys. So too in this case. Well , back to the story ... As soon as the lady was run over, the driver who was asleep got out of the bus and ran away. The driver who was driving the bus went to the back of the bus , changed to a "T", and escaped. A brainwave hit him , and he locked the bus behind him.
The hapless travellers were all prisoned in a gigantic bus. The locals started bombarding the bus with stones. Gradually , they realised that the drivers had escaped. And then , they broke open the door and let the unfortunate passengers out , as well as broke open the luggage compartment, and handed out the luggage. And my friend who was travelling in the bus thanked the stars above ,that the locals didnt think of torching the bus !

there was a story here..

an old man got hit by a car and the guy ran away. there was this doctor travelling on another car, stopped by to help him. unfortunately the villagers thought the doctor was the one who hit the old man, stoned the doctor to death.

and it happened right here, in M'sia.. about 2 km away from my home.

:(

Hello mysterious :)

Poor lady !! Did anyone search for her kins ? Checked neighborhood ?

Your friend is really lucky not to hv fallen into 'firing' line.

So how is life? You moved to b'lore ?

Fleiger said...

That was seriously lucky. It is the "retaliation" like this that makes the drivers run away, and in many cases deprives the victim from medical aid.

2 Ammu :
Oh ! thatz very sad ...
How did they finally prove the doc's innocence ?

2 Alex :
No .. i wasnt in there
I made it sound like that .. huh ?

2 Praney :
Hi ... Welcome :)
Yeah .. it's very diff to control frayed tempers !

2 Poison :
Yes ...

2 Ajith :
Yeah !

2 Vinci :
Hiiiii ....
Dont know what happened later on ...
Life is fine ... nothing breath taking happening , but not too dull either

2 Fleiger :
Cant really determine which is the effect , and which the cause ... maybe the people react the way they do as they've faced such situations before

Deepa,

I realised that when you mentioned about the friend. So for me the post had a good twist. :)

Locals wouldnt have torched the bus without letting out the passengers anyway! But what you have said so eloquently is so true! "Generally, fast moving rash vehicles are managed by cowards"

bus rides in kerala!!i cud write a post abt them...one "hell"uva ride..
sad to hear abt the accident but happy to hear tat ur frnd escaped unharmed :)

Fleiger said...

True... it is one of those circular thingies.
The main thing at this point is to provide medical attention, which takes a back seat because people fear police and public retribution.

AnonymousBlogger said...

Wow that is crazy. I can't picture anything like that happening here.

I guess vigilante jusitce is alive and well though.

scary scenario.. deepz..

just thinking how fragile and volatile are human sentiments..mob mentality is gaining grounds these days!!

RP said...

hmmm... should i comment about the luck of your friend or lack of it for the lady or the cowardice of the driver??

but i prefer to comment on the traffic rules and the lack of it in our community. I am sure of these two -
1. the driver would not have bothered to maintain lane discipline.
2. the lady would have thought this is her corridor and not stupid truck/bus or anybody can come when she is crossing even where she is not supposed to.

Amen

Deepa,

Dropped in to say 'Hi'. :)

Anoop said...

Your friend was really fortunate...
thank heavens common sense prevailed over the mob!!!
one thing i have noticed in indian roads is in case if a lorry/bus hits a cyclist/motorist/ pedestrian, its the drivers of those heavy duty vehicles which are always blamed and attacked, even though every time they may not be at fault!!!

Raghav said...

now that is a bollywood blockbuster right there !
a mob in many ways is like an out of control truck or bus, its unseeing and unthinking, it follows no rational direction and usually crushes everything in its path

OMG! never heard such horrible story :O
i understand the fear of driver thoo...

hi
first time here...
the story just proves that certain things aren't in our hands, what is going to happen is going to,as you questioned what if the bus had been torched?everyone was guilty in murder?

Srijith Unni said...

that`s so sad..! Too many accidents everywhere..!

Take Care Deepa..!

Srijith.

read this so many times in a month , but never put a comment.

well, i know how the crowd would behave if they had caught the driver. well accidents happen. if the driver is expected to keep a tight schedule, then this kind of accidents will happen. if the driver had done safe driving, then he probably won't have his job.

nobody cares to solve real problems, bad roads, put speed limiting devices on buses, pedestrian traffic on NH, catch rash over-speeding drivers and terminate their license for 1-2 years
instead people just see a accident, take sm drastic action beased on emotions and then its back to same old story

Deepti said...

your friend was real lucky. Sometimes a crowd gets into mob frenzy, and then it is very difficult to control.

sad!!!

Enigma said...

well.. lucky guy mean ur friend. The drivers of buses and infact the lorry drivers are damn rash. I know few other incidents. Very pathetic of ppl who die for no reason.

kickassso said...

yeesh!
at least they didnt steal the luggage first .
you can never know what a mob will do next :(

Priyankari said...

That was very pathetic! But lucky for ur friend too!

brought back memories of all those times I have travelled from cochin to bangalore by bus and got down at 'silk board' junction, in Madivala. I was a 'puzhekadavil' regular. The driving is extremely rash in the case of all these long distance buses, I can remember at least two instances of narrow escapes from head-on collisions!!!
